The UK200 Group, of which we are members, has more legal practices as clients than any other firm or network in the UK. This has led the Group to set up a specialist trade group which organises frequent training days and produces our Legal Group News publication, as well as undertaking legal practice benchmarking.
At Watts Gregory, we have replicated the UK200 Group's experience and set up our Legal Specialist Unit which provides services to our legal practice clients. The Unit is staffed by members of the ICAEW Solicitors Special Interest Group who attend the ICAEW's specialist training workshops.
The Unit is headed by Chris Hatcher who has in excess of 30 years experience in providing services to solicitors, barristers and chambers. Chris and the team have considerable experience in providing services to legal practices. Clients are also allocated specialist tax managers to deal with the practice's tax affairs and those of the properietors/partners/directors, as well as providing planning and advisory services.
The Unit's services include:
- Accounts preparation
- SRA Accounts Rules reports
- Business and personal tax
- Business strategy
- Practice mergers, demergers and conversions
- Succession and exit planning
- Workshops and lunchtime presentations
- Payroll processing
- Practice benchmarking
- Profit Improvement Program For Solicitors [PIPS]
The latter is a CPD accredited three hour workshop which helps solicitors understand the business cycle and the factors which drive profitability. The updated course is available from early 2012. In addition the Unit runs update courses for solicitors, practice managers and cashiers / accounts staff.
